Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team competes in just one match this weekend, the Falcons face Xavier Friday in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
"I anticipate great competition against Xavier since we had a lot of close matches this past fall," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said." Our motivation level was good this week at practice and I'm excited to watch the girls bring it tomorrow!"
The Falcons fell to 4-5 after suffering a 6-0 loss to nationally ranked Notre Dame. In doubles, the Orange and Brown duo of sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash captured a win for BG. Comella and Tavpash defeated the Irish's senior tandem of Jane Fennelly and Monica Robinson, 6-2.
Xavier has a 3-6 record on the season. The Musketeers have lost to Purdue, No. 7 California, Old Dominion, Wisconsin, Michigan State and most recently Princeton. This will be the 19th meeting between the teams. The Falcons are 14-5 on the series with the most recent match having been played during the 2013-14 campaign. A year ago, Xavier went 20-6 and 7-1 in conference play. At the Big East Tournament, the Musketeers defeated Villanova, St. Johns and DePaul earning the Big East Championship title. Xavier advanced to the NCAA tournament, but fell to Kentucky in the first round.
BGSU will travel to Houston, Texas and Lake Charles, La. for a pair of duals to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule. The Orange and Brown will face Houston Tuesday, March 7 and McNeese State Wednesday, March 8. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m.
