Rinker Leads Men's Golf at the Lone Star Invitational with a Season-Best Mark

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Bowling Green men's golf program tied for 11th overall at the Lone Star Invitational by a team score of 870, +6 after 54-holes of competition. The total team score is the lowest mark of the year for the Falcons in the 2016-17 campaign since the Marshall Invitational in Sept. 2016.
"We played tough today and it is a good test to prepare for the MAC Championships," Bowling Green men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell said. "However, when you play the best-of-the-best, you can't make any mistakes and Kent State is the best-of-the-best so we know what we have to work on to prepare for that challenge."
Finishing on top of the Bowling Green lineup for the second time this season was senior Brett Rinker, who carded a season-best score of 213, -3. Rinker tied for 18th overall with Oklahoma's Brad Dalke who will be playing in the Masters in two weeks, by carding an outstanding season-best score of 68, -4 in today's third round. A native of Slippery Rock, Pa., Rinker marked a team-leading 16 birdies, the second most of the tournament field, and posted 26 par scores as well as a 4.33, -8 average on par 5 scoring.
By finishing under par, senior Jose Narro finished the two-day tournament with a total score of 215, -1. The Tampico, Mexico native was consistent and marked an even round of 72 in today's competition, and totaled 36 pars over the course of the tournament, the most of any Falcon. Additionally, Narro led the Bowling Green squad on par 3 scoring with an average 3.08, +1.
By cutting a stroke off his score between the second and third rounds, sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias finished with an even score of 216 at the Lone Star Invitational. Iglesias marked an eagle in today's competition to card a par 72, in addition to going even on par 4 holes throughout the tournament.
Between the second and third round, redshirt sophomore Max Rispler shaved four strokes off of his game for a third round of 78, to finish with a total score of 230, +14. Rispler earned an eagle in yesterday's competition to mark an opening round of 70, his lowest score since a 69 at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Sept. 2016. A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Rispler also totaled nine birdies at the Lone Star Invitational.
Rounding out the Falcons lineup was freshman Nick Hofland, who marked a tournament low round of 75, +3 in today's final 18 holes. The round is also Hofland's lowest mark since the Inverness Intercollegiate in Sept. 2016, and he finished with a score of 234, +18 today. On his way to marking 31 par scores, Hofland also tallied six birdies and an average of 3.25, +3 average on par 3 scoring.
Oklahoma won the team title of the 2017 Lone Star Invitational by a team score of 824, -40, while the Sooners' Max McGreevy claimed the individual title by a mark of 196, -20.
Up next, the Bowling Green men's golf program will travel to Columbus, Ohio to competing in the Ohio State-hosted Robert Kepler Intercollegiate from April 22-23.
