At-large women's Academic All-District teams include student-athletes from beach volleyball, bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo. All members of the first team all-district squads become eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team honorees Academic All-America honorees will be selected and announced in June.
Â
Feely concluded a fabulous career with Falcon gymnastics in 2017 by earning second-team All-MAC honors for the third time in four seasons. She tied for second on vault at the MAC Championships with a 9.850 to earn a spot on the MAC All-Tournament team for the third time. She also tied for first in the MAC with a 9.870 Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) on vault, which earned an individual invitation to the NCAA Regionals. At Champaign, Ill., she scored a 9.800 and tied for seventh out of 41 gymnasts. Feely excelled on vault throughout the season, with four first-place finishes and three outright victories, as well as five other second-place results. On the academic side, Feely was named Academic All-MAC and MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete for the third consecutive season.
Â
"This is a fantastic recognition for Lauren," said BGSU gymnastics head coach Kerrie Turner. "She has devoted her efforts with equal ambition to her athletic and academic endeavors, and that has resulted in her tremendous success as a student-athlete. I am so proud of Lauren for receiving this honor."
Â
Feely is one of ten Division I student-athletes in District 5 to be honored. Of those ten, she is one of only two gymnasts, joining Nicole Artz from the University of Michigan. In addition, Feely is one of three to carry a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is one of four honorees from the Mid-American Conference. Feely is the fourth BGSU student-athlete to be named CoSIDA Academic All-District during the 2016-17 academic year, joining Pat Flynn and Joe Sullivan of the men's soccer team and Joe Davidson of the football team. Flynn, Sullivan and Davidson were each later named to their respective Academic All-America teams.
