Fleak Earns MAC Offensive Player of the Week Honor for Second Time
September 13, 2017 | Women's Soccer
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Skylar Fleak has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning (Sept. 13). She scored four points last week and helped lead BGSU to a pair of wins over Horizon League opponents.
Fleak, a senior forward from Sunbury, Ohio, began the week with her first career multi-assist game in the Falcons' 3-1 victory at Detroit Mercy. BGSU fell behind 1-0 in the opening minute, but Fleak fed Madison Schupbach for the equalizer 15 minutes later. Early in the second half, Maureen Kennedy took a free kick from 40 yards out; Fleak met the kick and passed to Nikhita Jacob for the game-winner.
Fleak celebrated Senior Day against Wright State with a goal that provided needed insurance in a 2-0 victory over the Raiders at Cochrane Stadium. In the 84th minute, she was open in BGSU's offensive third. Kristin Tveit found her with a laser of a pass, and Fleak beat the goalkeeper from five yards out.
For the week, Fleak had four shots (three SOG), one goal, two assists and four points. That increased her season totals to 20 shots (12 SOG), five goals, three assists and 13 points. Fleak leads the MAC in points and goals (both total and per-game), and she is tied for the conference lead in assists. She ranks tenth nationally in points per game (2.17) and is in the top 20 in goals per game and total points.
BGSU has achieved its 4-2-0 record in large part due to the offensive accomplishments of Fleak in 2017. She has scored at least one point in each of the team's four wins and won MAC Player of the Week honors following the team's season opener, during which she scored four goals. The two-time MAC honoree now ranks third in BGSU history with 21 career goals and is tied for sixth with 50 career points.
"Once again, this is a thoroughly deserved award, made possible because everyone on our team understands and performs their roles excellently," said head coach Matt Fannon. "Fortunately for Sky, her role is creating and scoring goals, and she is crushing it, so she gets the plaudits."
Bowling Green returns home for its final non-conference match of the season when it hosts Robert Morris (2-5-0) on Friday, Sept. 15. The contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at Cochrane Stadium.
