Walny Awarded MAC Scholar Athlete Of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid American Conference announced their Scholar Athletes of the Week this morning (Sept. 20), awarding redshirt junior Rachel Walny (cross country) with the women's honor.

Walny competed at the 2017 Spartan Invitational last Friday (Sept. 15) where she finished first of 290 to cross the line, with a time of 21:19.0. It was her first race since competing at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships last season.

She currently holds a 3.99 GPA and is majoring in exercise science.

This is the second MAC honor for Walny this season, after being named MAC Runner of the Week yesterday (Sept. 19). It is her third career Scholar Athlete of the Week honor, after receiving the award twice last year for cross country (Sept. 21, 2016) and track and field (April 19).
