India McPeak Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week
January 31, 2018 | Gymnastics
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- India McPeak, a senior gymnast from Bangor, N. Ireland, has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning (Jan. 31). McPeak excelled in BGSU's dual meet at Western Michigan last Sunday, capturing the meet's top score on the balance beam while also contributing to a season-best team score during the floor exercise. This is McPeak's first weekly honor in her two seasons with the Falcons.
McPeak carries an outstanding 3.933 grade point average in exercise science and extends that dedication to achievement to the gym. Against the Broncos, McPeak once again demonstrated why she is a school record holder and a conference medalist on the balance beam. Her routine earned a meet-best 9.825, which gave her a score of 9.800 or above and an event victory for the third time in four meets this season. She began the season with a victorious 9.825 on the beam at Michigan State, then tallied a season-best 9.850 for an outright win on Jan. 19 against Eastern Michigan. She currently ranks third in the MAC with a 9.819 average on the beam. Earlier in the meet against WMU, she posted a 9.800 for her floor exercise routine, as BGSU earned a season-best 49.150 in the event. She has back-to-back 9.8s on the floor; not coincidentally, the Falcons have back-to-back 49s in that event.
As a second-year transfer from the University of Michigan, McPeak has provided consistency for the Falcons throughout her career. During the 2017 season, she earned a pair of event victories and scored 9.8 or better eight times. However, she saved her best for last. At the 2017 MAC Championships, McPeak tied the BGSU school record and earned second place by scoring a 9.925. That mark propelled her to a place on the All-Tournament team, and she finished 2017 ranked tenth in the MAC with a 9.825 Regional Qualifying Score on the beam.
