BG advances to the MAC Tournament's Championship match for the second-straight season
Senior Jennifer Reyes scored midway through the second half, lifting the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Ohio University Friday night (Nov. 2). The match, a Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinal-round contest, was held at Cochrane Stadium on the BGSUÂ campus.
With the victory, the top-seeded Falcons (14-4-2) advance to the MAC Tournament's championship match on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 4). BGSU will meet number-two seed Ball State University. The Cardinals posted a 1-0, double-overtime victory over third-seeded Western Michigan University in Friday's first semifinal match.
The Bobcats (9-8-3), the tourney's number-four seed, see the season come to an end with the narrow loss.
The Falcons held an 11-8 advantage in total shot attempts, and BGSU had eight shots on goal to the Bobcats' two, but the match was scoreless until the 69th minute.
The Falcons' goal came after junior Maureen Kennedy intercepted the ball near midfield after an Ohio goal kick. Kennedy played a one-timer ahead to senior Erica Hubert, who took the ball into the penalty area on the left side of the field, then played it across to Reyes.
Reyes settled the ball near the top of the 18, and quickly hit a shot that beat Ohio goalkeeper Sydney Malham and found the far corner of the net, bouncing just inside of the far post.

FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
• 4' | The Bobcats had the first two shot attempts of the match, including an effort by Madelyn Kah with just under four minutes gone. Sydney Leckie played a cross into the center of the six-yard box, and Kah got her foot on the ball, but it was deflected out of play by a BG defender, and the Falcons successfully dealt with the ensuing corner kick.
• 9' | BG's first shot of the night came when sophomore Nikki Cox played the ball to classmate Sophia Barnes on the right side of the box. Barnes uncorked a hard shot that forced Ohio goalkeeper Sydney Malham into a spectacular diving save. Malham parried the ball away, but senior Jennifer Reyes hit a follow-up shot from the other side of the box. That shot, however, was blocked by a defender, and Ohio blasted the ball out of play for a BG throw-in.
• 19' | The Falcons looked to mount a counterattack, and junior Chelsee Washington played a through-ball to senior Erica Hubert. Hubert ran onto the ball and hit a one-time shot across her body that found the far corner of the net, but the assistant referee's flag was raised, indicating an offside call on the Falcons.
• 29' | After a BG giveaway, junior 'keeper Kathleen Duwve came racing all the way out of the 18-yard box to knock the ball away from Ohio striker Abby Townsend.
• 30' | BG mounted an attack, as Hubert fired a dangerous shot that was blocked out of play for a corner kick. Off of that corner, the Bobcats struggled to clear the ball as the Falcons looked to get a shot off. Washington did put a shot on frame, but Malham was able to grab the shot.
• 35' | Ohio's Rianna Reese played a diagonal ball that was deflected by a Falcon, but the carom landed directly in the path of Townsend. She hit a one-timer from approximately 10 yards out, but Duwve was there to make the stop.
• 39' | Freshman Mackenzie Reuber took a Washington pass and hit a serve toward goal. The ball was deflected by a Bobcat defender and wound up going on frame, but Malham grabbed it out of the air.
• 45' | With under a minute to play in the period, an Ohio corner sailed into the box, and the ball bounced around for several agonizing seconds before the Falcons finally cleared it.
SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
• 53' | Hubert hit a shot from the top of the penalty area, and Malham was just able to tip it over the bar.
• 55' | Hubert was at it again, taking a pass from Barnes and hitting a turnaround shot, but Malham was able to make the stop. It was Malham's third save in a span of just over two minutes
• 58' | The Bobcats were whistled for a foul – Ohio's first of the night – as Cox was dumped along the end line to Malham's left. Junior Maureen Kennedy's ensuing free kick sailed into the box, but an Ohio defender was able to play it out of the danger zone.
• 63' | Kennedy found senior Alexis Fricke on a corner, and Fricke served the ball into the area. The cross/shot sailed toward goal, and Malham was forced to tip it over the crossbar.
• 69' | GOAL | Kennedy stole an Ohio goal kick, stepping up to knock it forward to Hubert. Hubert, in the Bobcats' penalty area, took several touches before playing a short pass to the charging Reyes. The senior settled the ball and quickly fired a perfectly-placed shot that found the far corner of the net.
• 81' | Hubert made a right-to-left run across the top of the box, and slid a pass to freshman Ruby Linton. Linton laid the ball into the path of the onrushing Elisa Baeron, but the senior's hard shot from just outside the box went wide of the target.
• 83' | Ohio's Leckie hit a shot from distance, but Duwve was easily able to grab the ball off of one bounce. That proved to be the last shot attempt of the night for either team.
