Falcons Have Thirteen Named To Cross Country Academic All-MAC Teams

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men and women's cross country programs had a total of thirteen athletes named to the Mid-American Conference Cross Country All-MAC team this year, as announced by the conference on Wed., Dec. 6. This is the second consecutive year that the Falcons have had thirteen named. The men saw seven members honored while the women named six.
The seven men named Academic All-MAC include seniors Paul Garbarino and Jonathan Wenning, redshirt-junior Tyler Phillips, junior Jonathan Voth, redshirt-sophomore Raymond Berling, and sophomores Gabe Garbarino and Kyle Hibinger. Having seven men named is tied for the second most in the conference with Buffalo. Only Miami had more male athletes with eight.
Paul Garbarino, in his senior year, has achieved a 3.886 GPA and is majoring in Multiplatform Journalism. He competed in six of the Falcons seven races this year, and set a new personal best in the 8K.
Wenning has maintained a 3.389 GPA into his senior year while studying Supply Chain Management. He completed in all seven races for the orange and brown.
Phillips holds a 3.406 GPA and is majoring in Sport Management. He participated in all seven races for BGSU, recording multiple personal bests, including a third place finish at the MAC Championships to earn All-MAC 1st Team honors.
Voth, a Pre-Exercise Science major, is one of two men to have a 4.000 GPA. He competed in all seven races for the orange and brown, including setting two new personal bests.
Berling has a 3.781 GPA and is studying Adolescence to Young Adult Education. He ran in six of the Falcons' seven races, setting two new personal bests.
Gabe Garbarino is majoring in Finance and maintained a 3.464 GPA. He participated in five races for BGSU and set a new personal best in the 8K.
Hibinger, who is studying biology, also has a 4.000 GPA. He competed for the Falcons in seven races this season, including setting multiple personal bests.
The women added six athletes to give BGSU a total of thirteen Academic All-MAC team members. Redshirt-senior Rachel Walny led the list and was joined by redshirt-sophomore Allison Holahan, sophomores Claire Reynolds and Jessi Lindstrom, and redshirt-freshmen Allie Zofkie and Megan Aalberts.
Walny, who is studying Human Movement Sport Leisure Study, holds a 3.666 GPA. She competed in five races for the orange and brown, including breaking her own school record in the 5K twice over the course of the season. Walny also finished third at the MAC Championships, earning All-MAC 1st Team honors. In addition, she earned a 23rd place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals, becoming the first Falcon to be named to the All-Region team in all four years of eligibility.
Holahan holds a 3.981 GPA while majoring in biology. She ran in six races for BGSU, including setting a personal best in the 6K.
Reynolds is one of two women to have a 4.000 GPA and is studying dietetics. She participated in two races for the Falcons, including the MAC Championship.
Lindstrom has maintained a 3.400 GPA while majoring in Pre-Communication Disorders. She ran in five races this year, with one event being unattached.
Zofkie holds a 4.000 GPA and is studying Pre-Exercise Science. She competed in six races for the orange and brown in her first full season.
Aalberts, who is studying Pre-Accounting, holds a 3.785 GPA. She participated in fives races for BGSU, including setting a new personal best in the 6K.
Bowling Green led the conference in students with a 4.000 GPA and was one of three schools to have multiple students record a perfect GPA. Ohio and Kent State each had two, while the Falcons registered four, two men (Kyle Hibinger and Jonathan Voth) and two women (Allie Zofkie and Claire Reynolds).
Of the thirteen Falcons to be named, six have received the honor in a previous season. Rachel Walny was named for the fourth time; Paul Garbarino, Tyler Phillips, and Jonathan Wenning were named for a third time; and Allison Holahan and Raymond Berling were named for a second time.
