Tennis Continues Road Competition at IUPUI and UIndy

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (3-1) will continue its stretch of road competition as it travels to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on IUPUI (2-2) and UIndy (1-0) this weekend. First serve is set for 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9 at the West Indy Raquet Club against IUPUI, before the Falcons compete at the UIndy Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. Both events are free to attend.
This past weekend, the Bowling Green tennis program fell to the University of Pittsburgh by a 5-2 score, in which juniors Polina Radeva and Vanesa Pardo picked up wins in singles competition. At the No. 2 singles spot, Radeva remains undefeated through the first four matches, while Pardo is on a two-match winning streak against her opponents at the No. 6 slot.
Last season when facing IUPUI, the Falcons earned a 4-3 win at home (Jan. 27) in which Paula Comella, Ayumi Sasaki and Radeva all earned singles wins, while the pairing of Comella and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash at the No. 1 doubles spot earned a match win. Bowling green most recently faced UIndy on the road last season (Feb. 18), when they dropped a narrow 4-3 loss, although Comella, Radeva and Sasaki all earned singles victories. Additionally, the team of Radeva and Sasaki claimed a match win at No. 2 doubles.
IUPUI is off to a 2-2 start this season, as they picked up a 7-0 victory over SIU-Edwardsville (Jan. 26) as well as a 6-1 win at Chicago State (Jan. 28), while most recently, the Jaguars fell to Western Michigan on the road in a 7-0 shutout (Feb. 3). IUPUI's seven-player team is led by four seniors, including one junior, sophomore and freshman each, while head coach Marisa Arce begins her third season at the helm of the Jaguar program.
The Greyhounds of UIndy earned a dramatic 5-2 victory in its season opener against Valparaiso (Feb. 4), where their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings picked up victories for the point. Hanna Volikova, Alina Kislickaya, Chloe Weihs and Pam Brito Torres were able to earn singles victories for the upset to start the season. An eight-player squad, UIndy is led by four seniors as well as fifth year head coach Malik Tabet. Prior to facing the Falcons, UIndy will host Butler on Wednesday, Feb. 7 for its second match of the season.
The matches at IUPUI and UIndy come in the middle of a seven-match road stretch for the Falcons, before they return home to host UIC on March 16.
