Falcons Head To Texas To Compete In Border Olympics

Houston, Texas – The BGSU Men's Golf team will compete in the Border Olympics hosted by the University of Houston Friday and Saturday. The tournament will be played at the Loredo Country Club in Houston, Texas. The Falcons will represent the MAC as the only school from the conference and will compete against 16 other schools including Campbell, Arkansas State, Sam Houston State, UTSA, McNeese State, Louisiana Monroe, Arkansas Little Rock, New Mexico State, Western Kentucky, Stephen F. Austin, Louisiana-Lafayette, Oral Roberts, UTRGV, Houston Baptist and Lamar. The Falcons will play 36 holes on Friday and wrap up the final 18 on Saturday. Both days will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Bowling Green finished towards the top of the rankings in last year's Border Olympics. The Falcons finished the tournament in fourth place behind Campbell, Houston and UTSA carding 571, -5. Max Rispler stood out for the Falcons finishing tied for second with a final score of 136, -8.
The Border Olympics will be the first team competition of the year for the Falcons. BG competed in an individual competition in early March, the Georgia Southern Collegiate. Standouts for the Falcons were Pablo Heredia Iglesias, finishing tied for eighth carding a 148, +4 for two rounds as well as Rodrigue Vie jumping 12 places in the final round with a 73 and owning one eagle on the weekend. Head coach John Powers looks forward to competing in his first team competition as head coach.
"We've had a great week of training and are ready to compete," Powers said. "We had success in this event last year and are looking forward to getting started with our first team event of the season."
The lineup for the weekend's invitational at the Border Olympics will include Vie, Nick Hofland, Max Rispler, Iglesias, and Mitchell Kontak carding for the team, as well as Trey Walker competing individually.
Following the Border Olympics, the Falcons will compete in three more tournaments in the spring 2018 season including the Greenbrier Invitational (Apr. 9-10) and the Robert Kepler Invitational (Apr. 21-22). The 2018 season will conclude with MAC Championships (Apr. 27-29) taking place in Fort Wayne, Ind.
