
Tennis Heads to Oxford to Face In-State Rival Miami

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (12-7, 4-2 MAC) continues Mid-American Conference play this Saturday, April 14 as it travels to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami (8-8, 4-1 MAC). First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Miami Tennis Courts in the RedHawks final home event of the season.

Bowling Green split this past weekend as it fell 5-2 to Toledo, before rebounding for a 4-3 victory against Eastern Michigan in the final home event of the season. Against the Rockets, juniors Paula Comella and Polina Radeva each earned individual wins, while they each began two-match win streaks with additional victories against the Eagles. The Falcons also earned the doubles point against Eastern Michigan as the pairings of Comella / Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Vanesa Pardo / Marta Bettinelli earned victories on courts 1 and 3, respectively. On the season, the Falcons went 8-1 at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
Last season, the pairing of Comella / Tavpash was able to earn a 6-4 victory over Miami's Ponomareva / Shapovalova at No. 1 doubles, although the RedHawks took the match by a 7-0 score.
More recently, Miami posts an overall record of 8-8 in addition to a 4-1 mark in MAC play after downing Akron and Eastern Michigan by scores of 5-2 this past week. A nine player roster, Miami has earned the doubles point in all five conference matches this season, and is currently on a two-match win streak. Led by first year head coach Ricardo Rosas, Miami is a young program with six freshmen and just two seniors in Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina.
After facing the RedHawks this weekend, the Falcons will round out the regular season at Western Michigan on Sunday, April 22, before competing in the 2018 MAC Championships April 27-29.
