MAC Announces 2018 Preseason Football Media Poll

Detroit, Mich. – In conjunction with the league's annual football media day, the Mid-American Conference has released the 2018 MAC Football Media Preseason Poll, as determined by vote of the conference's media members.

Bowling Green earned 58 points and was selected to finish fifth in the MAC East Division. Ohio earned 21 of the 24 first-place votes to be picked as the preseason favorite. Buffalo had one first-place vote and finished second, while Miami had two first-place votes and was picked third. Defending MAC East Champion Akron was fourth and Kent State was sixth.

In the MAC West Division, Northern Illinois was chosen first with 15 first-place votes and Toledo was second with seven first-place votes. Western Michigan was third, followed by Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Ball State.

Ohio earned 13 of the 24 votes as the MAC Championship game winner, followed by Toledo with five and Northern Illinois with four. Miami and Central Michigan each got a championship nod as well.

In the last three years, six different MAC programs have competed in the Marathon MAC Football Championship game (including BGSU in 2015) and every football program has received an invitation to a bowl game during the last six years. Bowling Green has played in three MAC Championship games during that span and went to four bowl games (2012-15).

2 - Buffalo (1 first place vote), 112 points
3 - Miami (2 first place votes), 95 points
4 - Akron, 74 points
5 - Bowling Green, 58 points
6 - Kent State, 25 points
MAC WEST DIVISION
1 - Northern Illinois (15 first place votes), 133 points
2 - Toledo (7 first place votes), 125 points
3 - Western Michigan (1 first place vote), 87 points
4 - Eastern Michigan, 67 points
5 - Central Michigan (1 first place vote), 58 points
6 - Ball State, 34 points
