The Paul Hornung Award, now in its ninth season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Horning Award dinner presented by Jewish Hospital Sports Medicine, to be held at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville in March, 2019.
As a true freshman, Clair broke Bowling Green's single-season yards per carry school record by averaging 6.8 yards per rush. His 107 carries for 745 yards were second on the team and he added four rushing touchdowns. A third-team All-MAC selection, Clair had four consecutive 100-yard games at one point in the 2017 season.
But Clair's versatility extends to both the passing game and special teams as well. He caught 13 passes for 129 yards and was one of the Falcons' primary kick returners, averaging 20.6 yards on 16 returns.
Vince Lombardi called Hornung "the most versatile man ever to play the game" and Hornung set a single-season NFL scoring record that stood for 46 years.
The 2018 Watch List is comprised of 14 seniors, 19 juniors and 10 sophomores who play a total of 10 different positions. It was compiled by a panel of college football experts based on a combination of 2017 statistics, career performance, SID recommendations, and expectations heading into the 2018 season.
Clair has also been named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List as well, honoring the nation's top college running back. Also, senior wide receiver Scott Miller was named to the Biletnikoff Watch List, presented to the top receiver in college football.
