BG Tennis Opens Spring With Sweep For First Time Since 1996

LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Bowling Green State University tennis program opened their spring campaign with a 7-0 sweep over Bellarmine University. The win will give the Falcons a 1-0 start to the season, while Bellarmine will remain 0-0, as the match served as a exhibition for the Knights. This is the first time BGSU has opened the spring with a sweep since 1996 when Bowling Green bested Butler 9-0.

Statistical Standouts
- Five of the Falcons six singles wins came in straight sets.
- In singles play, Marta Bettinelli nearly completed the two set shutout, only allowing Madison Devillez to capture one point in each set.
- With a win in both singles and doubles play, Paula Comella is now 25th in career combined wins in school history with 108.
- Comella's win in doubles ties her with Susie Schoenberger for 26th for career doubles wins in school history at 53.
- Last year, the Falcons registered one shutout on the season when they topped IUPUI.
- With a sweep to start the season, BGSU will have many opportunities to record multiple shutouts over the course of a season for the first time since the 2012-13 season. In the spring of 2013, the Falcons swept Duquesne and Chicago State.
