Dop, Gustafson Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
January 28, 2019 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Track and Field
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. For the second consecutive week, hockey player Eric Dop and track and field student-athlete Aliyah Gustafson have earned the awards.
Male Athlete of the Week
Eric Dop, a sophomore from Lewis Center, Ohio, recorded his second shutout victory in a row in Friday (Jan. 25) night's 2-0 win over Ferris State. Dop turned away all 22 shots over 60 minutes between the pipes. He then kept his shutout streak intact through 19:25 of the first period in Saturday (Jan. 26) night's 3-0 loss to Ferris State. Over four starts, Dop's shutout streak lasted 158:02 in shutout minutes. This is the second longest shutout minutes streak in program history.
Female Athlete of the Week
Aliyah Gustafson, a redshirt senior from Iowa City, Iowa, broke her own school record in the shot put, throwing 57-feet-5 (17.50m), virtually assuring herself of a return trip to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships. She ranks No. 3 in the country in the event and leads the MAC by more than six feet. Gustafson also threw a season-best 64-9.75 (19.75m) in the weight throw and ranks second in the MAC in that event.
