January 08, 2019 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are basketball players Demajeo Wiggins and Sydney Lambert.
Male Athlete of the Week
Demajeo Wiggins, a senior from Toledo, led Bowling Green to a MAC opening victory at Kent State Saturday (Jan. 5) evening. Wiggins posted his nation-leading 11th double-double, as he went 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from the field to finish with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Wiggins, who was a game-high +26 when on the floor, bumped his rebounding average up to 12.4. The senior ranks third in the country in rebounding, and is averaging a career-high 15.3 points per game.
Female Athlete of the Week
Sydney Lambert, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, scored a game-high 22 points in BGSU's lone game of the week, a narrow 84-82 loss to Western Michigan in the MAC opener at the Stroh Center. Lambert was 8-of-15 from the floor, including a 4-for-8 performance from the arc, vs. the Broncos, and also had six rebounds and six assists. She has scored 40 points over her last two games, and is now just four points away from moving into the top-25 on the BGSU career scoring list. Lambert, who has started every game since coming to BGSU, now has 213 career three-point field goals made, good for fourth on that BGSU career list.
