Washington, White Walk It Off vs. CMU
October 10, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Falcons score late, then score later, to remain atop the MAC
White's goal with under a minute left in the second overtime came after senior Chelsee Washington tied the match with less than a minute to go in regulation. White had the primary assist on Washington's goal, heading a serve by senior Maureen Kennedy into the path of Washington in the box. Washington shielded the ball from a defender before depositing it into the left side of the net.
The winning goal came after Washington crossed a ball into the box from the left side. A CMU defender headed the ball away from the six-yard line, but the ball went to sophomore Sarah Allen at the top of the 18-yard box. Allen chested it down and hit a curving shot that rang off the crossbar near the right goalpost.
White slid around her defender, settled the rebound of Allen's shot and quickly placed a low shot into the far side of the net, sparking a wild celebration at the north end of the field.
Redshirt junior Nikki Cox had scored the game's first goal in the 16th minute, heading home a Washington cross. But, the Chippewas tied the score on a penalty kick by Alina Miagkova with just 25 seconds left in the first half, then took the lead on a nifty one-timer by Samantha Kay-Toral in the 53rd minute. The score remained 2-1 until Washington's 90th-minute heroics.
Senior Kathleen Duwve made four saves in goal for the Falcons, while CMU's Zoie Reed made six stops on the night.
BGSU had a 23-14 lead in total shots, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. After taking a total of 13 shots during the 90 minutes of regulation, the Falcons fired 10 shots in the 19 minutes (plus one second) of overtime.

FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
• 2' | Sophomore Sarah Allen played a ball into the box from the right side, but CMU goalkeeper Zoie Reed broke up that BGSU scoring chance with a diving effort.
• 4' | Another Allen cross, this time after a pass from fellow soph Alexis Miller and this time from the left side, was picked off by Reed as well.
• 11' | After a CMU foul, senior Maureen Kennedy blasted a free kick from distance, but the shot was wide of the right post.
• 12' | Miller found redshirt junior Nikki Cox with a pass, but Cox's shot from the right side was saved.
• 14' | Allen received a pass from junior Nikhita Jacob and won a corner kick on the left side. Off of that Kennedy corner, senior Chelsee Washington got her head on the ball, but the shot was off the mark.
• 16' | GOAL | The Falcons took the lead on a Nikki Cox goal. Sophomore Mackenzie Reuber hit a crossing ball from the right side. The ball went through the 18-yard box, but Washington tracked it down on the left side of the area and quickly played the ball back into the danger zone, where Cox headed it home.
• 27' | Miller played a ball forward, and freshman Katie Cox laid it off for her older sister. Nikki Cox was unceremoniously dumped to the ground as she attempted to split a pair of CMU defenders near the top of the box, but the assistant referee's flag was already raised, indicating an offside call against the home team.
• 32' | After a BGSU giveaway in the Falcons' defensive third, a BG player was forced to commit a quick foul. Maria Kaschalk took the ensuing free kick for CMU, and fired a shot, but the ball sailed over the crossbar.
• 34' | Washington played freshman Kennedy White into the box, and White's shot was blocked out for a corner kick. Off of that corner, Nikki Cox saw her shot blocked as well, and Central was eventually able to clear the ball out of their end.
• 44' | After a CMU free kick was knocked out of the penalty area by the Falcons, the Chippewas tracked it down. A Central player appeared to be attempting a shot from distance, but her attempt was off the mark, instead sailing directly into the path of the onrushing Lauren DeBeau in the box. DeBeau hit a shot from the left side, but Falcon senior Kathleen Duwve made the save from close range.
• 45' | GOAL | After a foul on the Falcons, a free kick sailed into the box. Several players went to the ground, and a penalty kick was awarded. Alina Miagkova took that kick for the Chippewas, and put her shot into the lower-right-hand corner of the net with just 25 seconds remaining before halftime.
SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
• 48' | Washington found Nikki Cox with a pass, and Cox hit a shot from just outside the box, but Reed was able to make the save.
• 53' | GOAL | The Chippewas took the lead on a pretty goal. Kaschalk crossed the ball from the right side, and Samantha Kaye-Toral hit a nifty one-timer into the far side of the net for a 2-1 CMU advantage.
• 58' | Nikki Cox possessed the ball on the end line, facing away from goal, but made a sweet backheel move to elude a would-be defender. She played a ball toward the center, and Katie Cox hit a quick shot from approximately 10 yards out, but it was wide of the near post.
• 77' | A foul on BG resulted in a Kaschalk free kick, and she hit a hard shot toward the upper half of the goal. Duwve got her hands on the ball, tipping it over the crossbar for a corner kick, and the Falcons successfully dealt with the ensuing set piece.
• 90 | GOAL | The Falcons served the ball toward the goalmouth on several occasions over the final two-plus minutes of regulation, and Central cleared the ball out of danger repeatedly, until BG finally found the equalizer. Off of a Kennedy throw-in, the senior got the ball back and hit a diagonal ball. White ran onto it and flicked it into the box with a nod of her head. Washington was there to fire it home, tying the match with just 35 seconds on the clock.
FIRST-OVERTIME HIGHLIGHTS
• 91' | The Falcons had a 4-1 advantage in shots in the first 10-minute OT session. The BG buildup in the opening minute of the period included Kennedy, Reuber, Nikki Cox, Washington and Allen. Allen's shot from the left side was blocked out of play by Reed.
• 92' | Off of the ensuing corner, White got her head on the ball, but her shot went wide.
• 99' | Washington took a shot, and just under a minute later, Allen fired a ball toward the goal as well, but both efforts went wide of the target.
SECOND-OVERTIME HIGHLIGHTS
• 102' | BGSU had a 6-0 advantage in shots in the second overtime. Nikki Cox had a shot blocked, but the Falcons quickly got the ball back, and Jacob found Reuber on the right side. Reuber blew past a CMU player, taking the ball into the penalty area, but Reed alertly broke up Reuber's crossing attempt before a BG player could get to the ball.
• 104' | Washington took a pass from freshman Jasmijn Dijsselhof, and the senior slid a through ball in the direction of the onrushing Allen. It was all a CMU defender could do to knock the ball out of bounds for a corner. Off of that Kennedy CK, a header by Washington went over the bar.
• 106' | Nikki Cox took a pass from Washington as she headed into the box on the right side, and Cox hit a hard shot. Reed not only made the save, but somehow held onto the ball, preventing a dangerous rebound.
• 110' | GOAL | Washington's left-side cross was headed by a CMU defender, but Allen chested it down and hit a shot off of the crossbar. White picked up the rebound and quickly slid her shot into the far side of the net.
