Senior earns conference weekly honor after two BGSU shutouts last week
Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Kathleen Duwve has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced late Tuesday morning (Oct. 29). Duwve earns the honor for the first time this season and the second time in her BGSU career.
Duwve, a native of Sylvania, Ohio (Northview H.S.), went 2-0-0 with a goals-against average of 0.00 as the Falcons clinched a share of the MAC regular-season title with a pair of road wins over the weekend. Duwve played the first 70 minutes of the Falcons' 7-0 win over Northern Illinois on Thursday night (Oct. 24), giving way to fellow senior Monica Florez for the final 20 minutes with the match well in hand.
On Sunday (Oct. 27), Duwve made three saves in a 1-0 shutout win at Western Michigan. She has allowed just one goal over the last 418:52, spanning the last four-plus matches.
On the season, Duwve has a goals-against average of just 1.08, and that GAA is just 0.69 in MAC matches. She has moved into a tie for second place in school history in career wins, and currently ranks first in BGSU history in both career GAA and career saves percentage.
The Falcons are 11-5-2 overall, and BGSU leads the MAC with a 9-1-0 league record. BGSU, as mentioned, has clinched no worse than a tie for the MAC regular-season title, and the Falcons will look to secure the outright crown on Thursday (Oct. 31). BG ends the regular season with a 3:00 p.m. match at the University of Toledo.
Then, the Falcons return home for a MAC Tournament quarterfinal-round match on Sunday (Nov. 3). BGSU will meet a team to be determined in a 1:00 p.m. match at Cochrane Stadium, and admission is free.
