Tennis To Conclude Fall Schedule With Buffalo Invite
October 31, 2019 | Women's Tennis
Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis program will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take part in the three-day UB Invite, spanning from Nov. 1-3. The event will be hosted by Buffalo and will be played in its entirety indoors. The invite will mark the end of the fall season for the Falcon Tennis team with their schedule resuming on Jan. 18 when they head to West Lafayette, Ind. to face Purdue.Â
The Field
Bowling Green will be competing against two schools in addition to host Buffalo, being Rutgers and Cleveland State. At the ITA Northeast Regionals, Buffalo saw members of the team go deep into the tournament, going as far as the round of 16 in both singles and doubles. As for Rutgers, they are coming off of the same ITA Regionals as Buffalo, where they had four singles players advance to the second round of the Main Draw and one go as far as the Round of 16. Cleveland State's last action was the Akron Shootout, where they claimed a handful of wins over the course of the event.Â
Last Time Out
The Falcons last took part in the ITA Regionals, hosting by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. Bowling Green participated in two days of the competition, seeing both singles and doubles being played in by BGSU athletes. Senior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash captured a singles win in the first round, highlighting the trip for BGSU. Â
Checking The Record Book
Senior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash has etched her name in the record book already, but will look to move up the list throughout the season. Doubles has proved to be a strength for Tavpash, totaling 70 wins over her career at Bowling Green, placing her in a tie for 16th all-time. With 119 combined wins, Tavpash is 25th all-time in that category and 28th all-time for career singles wins with 49. Fellow senior Ayumi Sasaki is also nearing the top 30 all-time for career wins, needing just two additional singles wins to her 45 to enter the list.Â
