Askin, Meyer Combine For 42 Kills Against Kent State

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program came up short against the Kent State Golden Flashes at the Stroh Center Friday night (Nov. 1), falling by a score of 3-1. The Falcons were led offensively by Jacqueline Askin and Katelyn Meyer with each logging at least 20 kills. The loss moves Bowling Green's record to 13-10 on the season with a 7-4 MAC standing.Â

Play-By-Play Notes
- With a 4-0 run early in the first set, the Falcons' lead grew to 6-2 to begin the match.Â
- Kent would use a run of their own to pull closer later in the set, pushing the score to 15-12, Bowling Green.Â
- A long point in the first set would end in a kill for the Falcons, giving the Orange and Brown a 21-18 lead late in the set.Â
- Out of a timeout, the Golden Flashes went on a 3-0 run to tie the set at 21 all. Bowling Green followed suit with a timeout of their own to break the action.Â
- A late surge by Kent State in the first set would hand them the point and give them a 1-0 lead.
- The Golden Flashes carried their momentum into the second set, starting up 7-3 to force a timeout from the Bowling Green bench.Â
- The lead would grow for Kent State to 17-9 in the set with another timeout from the Falcons to stop play.Â
- From there, the Golden Flashes would close out the set with a 25-17 win to extend their lead.
- The third set began with a back-and-forth battle, going until a Kent State timeout with them leading 14-13.Â
- A run by the Falcons would push the score to 20-16Â BGSU, forcing a timeout from the Kent State bench.Â
- The Falcons would carry the momentum from the run into a third set win to force a fourth set.Â
- The fourth needed a media timeout at 15-13, Kent State to break the action.Â
- The Falcons would call a timeout soon after with the score at 17-14, still in favor of Kent State.Â
- A challenge by Kent State would swing the score from what would have been a one-point set to a three-point set, leading to an eventual timeout by Bowling Green with the score at 22-19 Kent State.Â
- The Flashes would come out the set and match from there, winning 25-22.Â
Strong Individual PerformancesÂ
- Jacqueline Askin led the team in kills for the Falcons, logging her first 20-kill match of her career with a total of 22, along with a .316 hitting percentage.
- Continuing a one-two punch on the attack, Katelyn Meyer also totaled 20 kills marking the first time this season two Falcons have totaled 20 or more kills in a single match. As for Meyer, this is the third time this season she has surpassed the mark.
- After winning the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week award for last weekend's performance, Julia Walz totaled a team-leading 25 digs on Friday. For her career, Walz now has exactly 500 digs.
- On the defensive end, Katie Kidwell notched three solo blocks and two block assists for a total of five on the night, moving her career total to 365. Kidwell needs just three more blocks to surpass Carlyn Esslinger for tenth all-time in program history for total blocks in a career.Â
- For assists, Isabelle Marciniak topped the stat sheet once again, registering 39 over the course of the four sets. Marciniak pitched in eight digs as well, leaving her just shy of yet another double-double on the season.Â

- BGSU will return to the Stroh Center on Saturday, Nov. 2 to take on Ohio for the second time this season. The first meeting, being in Athens, Ohio, concluded in Bowling Green's favor after overcoming a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.Â
- The Ohio match will be a "Buy One Get One" event, paired with football. Present your football ticket at the Stroh Center ticket office and receive free admission to volleyball. The Falcons will also be participating in Lace Up 4 Cancer during the match.Â
