BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — A new floor raised the ceiling for the BGSU volleyball program.
A transformational gift from Mo and Jon Stansbery helped to ensure that the Falcons remain among the top programs not only in the Mid-American Conference, but in the region. Because of Jon and Mo's devotion to BGSU Athletics and financial support, the Falcon volleyball program will be among the first in the MAC to install a state-of-the-art Taraflex floor prior to the 2024 season. The floor, named the "Mo and Jon Stansbery Court," was unveiled on Aug. 30, 2024, prior to BGSU's season-opening match vs. Chicago State.
Through their philanthropic giving, Jon and Mo impacted the experience of Falcon student-athletes across many sports. Widely known for recruiting fans, their ever-expanding volleyball fan club has enhanced the experience for the student-athletes and their families. In 2017, they were presented with the Volleyball Supporters of the Year Award.Â
"We love Bowling Green Volleyball and all that goes with it," said the Stansberys at the time of the donation. "We love the student-athletes, coaches, staff, parents and fans. The culture of continuous improvement has made BGSU the best place to play and be a fan in the MAC. We wanted to gift this floor as a show of support and testament to the continued excellence of the program."Â
The Taraflex floor provided a key advancement for the Falcons in both performance and safety. Bowling Green, as mentioned, became one of the first programs in the MAC to utilize the world-class playing surface. With its unparalleled durability and enhanced shock absorption properties, the Taraflex floor is designed to optimize player performance while minimizing the risk of injury, ensuring that athletes can compete at the highest level with confidence.Â
"We are incredibly grateful to Jon and Mo [Stansbery] for their extraordinary generosity in gifting the Taraflex floor to our BGSU Volleyball program, which will proudly bear their names," said then-BGSU Head Coach Danijela Tomic at the time of the unveiling. "As our biggest supporters and dearest friends, their unwavering commitment to our program is deeply felt by everyone here. The love and appreciation from our players and staff for Jon and Mo are immeasurable. This remarkable gift not only elevates our facility, but also serves as a lasting symbol of their support and friendship. The Taraflex floor will be the cornerstone of our team's countless future successes and memorable moments. We are truly blessed to have Jon and Mo as part of our BGSU Volleyball family and cannot thank them enough for their continued dedication and the love they bring to our program."Â
The Falcons' debut on the new floor was a successful one, as BGSU registered a 3-0 sweep of Chicago State.
Sadly, Jon Stansbery passed away in November of 2024, but the memory of his family's BGSU connection remains alive. In fact, the generosity of Jon and Mo Stansbery is evident to every fan who enters the Stroh Center for a volleyball match and sees their names on the floor. One more moment, one more experience, one more chapter in 15 years of the Stroh Center.
The next 15 years of the Stroh Center will begin tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 4), when the Falcons host the Best Western Invitational. The tournament, which includes four Friday matches and two Saturday contests, begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, and BG's first match comes at 1:00 p.m. as the Falcons face Arkansas State.
