Five tournaments, seven home dates highlight challenging spring slate
The Bowling Green State University softball team will begin the 2020 season with a pair of games in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Valentine's Day. The Falcons' spring slate features five tournaments as well as seven home dates at Meserve Field.
The Falcons will meet Chattanooga, as well as Indiana State, Lipscomb, Tennessee Tech and Western Kentucky on the season's opening weekend (Feb. 14-16). The Brown and Orange will play tournaments in the state of Tennessee on three-straight weekends to begin the season, including five games in Nashville (Feb. 21-23), where BG will participate in Tennessee State's tourney. Central Connecticut State, Creighton and Rider round out the roster of opponents on the season's second weekend.
Then, the Brown and Orange will play two games each vs. Tennessee and East Tennessee State the following weekend, at the latter school's tourney (Feb. 28-March 1). BG will also meet Tennessee Tech in that weekend's action in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Clearwater Invitational (March 6-8) sees the Falcons face Chattanooga for a second time, and Army West Point, Penn State, Providence and Seton Hall also will meet the Falcons in Florida. BG's final tournament, at Illinois, features two games each against Green Bay and the host Illini (March 14-15).
After a game at Illinois State (March 17), BGSU will begin both the home and Mid-American Conference portions of the schedule on March 21, when Buffalo comes to Meserve Field for a Saturday doubleheader.
This season, BGSU will play two games apiece against each of the other MAC schools, with home doubleheaders vs. UB, Ohio (April 4), Central Michigan (April 24), Akron (April 25) and Toledo (May 1). The Falcons will hit the road for conference twinbills vs. Miami (March 28), Kent State (April 3), Northern Illinois (April 10), Western Michigan (April 11) and Ball State (April 18).
The Brown and Orange will host both Detroit Mercy (April 1) and Purdue Fort Wayne (May 3) in non-conference doubleheaders, and BGSU will travel to Michigan (April 7), Oakland (April 21) and Cleveland State (April 28) in midweek non-league action during the month of April. The U-M matchup is a single game, while BG is scheduled to play a doubleader vs. both OU and CSU.
The 2020 MAC Tournament is scheduled for May 6-9 at Firestone Stadium in Akron, with the tournament winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
