>> Washington is the second player in BGSU history -- and the second in as many years -- named to the all-region first team
>> Cox & Kennedy earn all-region second-team honors
>> Washington & Kennedy are the first two-time all-region picks in BG history
>> BGSU has had nine all-region honorees in the last three years, after having three in the previous 20
The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team continues to earn honors after a record-setting 2019 season. The Mid-American Conference champions have landed three players on the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Team.
Senior Chelsee Washington was named to the first team, becoming the second all-region first-team selection in program history, and the second in as many years. Senior Maureen Kennedy and redshirt junior Nikki Cox were named to the all-region second team.
Both Washington and Kennedy have been named to the 2019 team after being voted to the all-region second team in 2018. They become the first two-time all-region selections in BGSU history.
BGSU's total of three all-region honorees is the second-highest in program history. The Falcons had never had more than two all-region selections (in 2005) prior to landing a school-record five players last season. The 2005, '18 and '19 teams all saw the Falcons win both the Mid-American Conference regular-season and tournament titles.

"I am thrilled for these women, who are all completely deserving of the recognition," said Fannon.
BGSU had the most players of any MAC school on the 2019 All-Midwest Region Team. Ball State and Ohio had two players named to the team, while Akron, Eastern Michigan, Kent State and Western Michigan each had one honoree.
Washington, the MAC's Offensive Player of the Year, scored a team-leading 25 points on the season. She was second on the Falcons with eight goals and paced the club with nine assists. An All-MAC First-Team selection for the second-straight season, Washington's goal total included overtime winners vs. both Dayton and Eastern Michigan, and a goal in the NCAA Championships at Michigan. In MAC games, she tied for the team scoring lead, with 14 points in the 11 conference contests. Washington ended her career with 65 points at BGSU, tying for fourth in school history. She finished fifth in career goals, with 21, and tied for fourth on the BG assists list, with 23.
"For Chelsee to become our second ever first-team all-region player is really no surprise to anyone," said Fannon. "She is so driven and an example of what dedicating yourself to your sport looks like."
Kennedy, the MAC's Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season, finished fourth on the team with 17 points, despite missing the last four-plus contests due to injury. Kennedy -- one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award -- had five goals and seven assists on the year, and she had 12 points on three goals and a team-high six helpers in MAC play. Kennedy scored a pair of game-winning goals, and saw another goal tie a match with just 19.3 seconds remaining in regulation. Kennedy wound up her career with 61 points, ranking seventh in BGSU history. She finished second in school history in career assists, with 31, and was just two shy of tying the school record. And, she ended her career ranked 13th in career goals, with 15.
"Mo had such a tough ending to her season with the injury right before the tournament began," said Fannon. "She has been a wonderful player throughout her time here, and to receive such high-level awards back-to-back is really incredible."
Cox ranked second on the Falcons in both goals and points in 2019, joining Washington and Kennedy on the All-MAC First Team. Her 23 points included nine goals and five assists. She scored a team-high three GWG, including the winner in back-to-back games late in the season. Her GWG against Toledo enabled BG to clinch the MAC regular-season crown outright, and her winner against Central Michigan three days later helped the Falcons to victory in the MAC Tournament's quarterfinal round. Cox, after just two years with the Falcons, is ranked 11th in school history in goals. She has 42 points in 45 games as a Falcon, including 17 goals and eight assists.
"Nikki was so important to our game plan all season long," said Fannon. "She is the hardest-working center forward I have ever worked with, and is such a positive influence on her teammates."
The Falcons, as mentioned, won both the MAC regular-season and tournament titles. BGSU went 14-6-3 overall, tying the school record for wins, and finished with a league ledger of 10-1-0 for the second-straight year. The Falcons became the first program in MAC history to win 10 conference matches in back-to-back seasons.
Since Fannon took the helm prior to the 2017 season, the Falcons are 41-18-7 overall, 26-6-1 in MAC regular-season matches and 32-7-3 in all games vs. conference foes.
