Five Falcons Named Fall Distinguished Scholar-Athletes
December 20, 2019 | General, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Volleyball
Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference today announced the league's Distinguished Scholar-Athletes from seven fall sports during the 2019-20 academic season. Bowling Green had five student-athletes recognized as the 'best of the best' from each sport's All-MAC and Academic All-MAC teams.
The Distinguished Scholar-Athlete award is in its sixth year honoring student-athletes who excel in athletics and academics in the MAC. Selection for Distinguished Scholar-Athlete was tweaked for the 2019-20 season. In order to earn Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.50 grade point average and must have been recognized as both All-MAC and Academic All-MAC in their sport. Previously, the MAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives determined the selection of Distinguished Scholar-Athletes by vote of those who had been named Academic All-MAC.
A trio of BGSU women's soccer players were named Distinguished Scholar-Athletes as Kathleen Duwve, Maureen Kennedy and Chelsee Washington were all honored. BGSU men's soccer player Chris Sullivan and BGSU volleyball player Katelyn Meyer rounded out the group of Falcons named Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.
Later in the winter and spring, the MAC will announce Distinguished Scholar-Athletes from the remaining 16 winter and spring sports sponsored by the conference.
