Falcons Conclude Weekend With Win Over Cleveland State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis program closed out the weekend with a win over Cleveland State by a score of 4-3. The win brings the Falcons overall record to 4-3 on the season, including 2-1 over the three games this weekend (Feb. 8-10). BGSU is now 3-0 when playing at home and have won three of their last four matches. In today's contest, they were led by Paula Comella and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash who both rallied for wins in both singles and doubles play, giving the Falcons an early 3-0 advantage and setting them up for success.

The Falcons will take on the Panthers with a scheduled first serve at 3 p.m. Pittsburgh will enter play with a 3-4 overall record. The two teams have two common opponents this year, Notre Dame and Louisville. Against Notre Dame, the Falcons lost 7-0, while the Panthers lost 6-1. As for Louisville, Pittsburgh lost to the Cardinals 7-0 and Bowling Green lost 5-2. BGSU and Pitt faced off last season with the Panthers coming away with a 5-2 win. In the match, Polina Radeva and Vanesa Pardo both earned singles points for the Falcons.

Statistical Standouts
- In No. 1 doubles play, Comella and Tavpash broke out to a quick 3-0 lead against the Vikings, mounting into a 6-0 victory.
- Ayumi Sasaki and Marta Bettinelli surged back from a 3-2 deficit to take a 6-5 lead before clinching the doubles point for BGSU, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead entering singles play.
- Comella and Tavpash continued their strong shutout play into singles, both jumping out to win 6-0 in their first sets. Both would go on to win the second sets as well, clinching two singles points for the Falcons.
- Polina Radeva came back in the first set, starting down 3-0 before storming back to a 4-3 lead, winning 6-4. After coming up short in the second set, Radeva came back strong in the third set, gaining a 5-0 lead, before winning 6-1.
- Starting down 4-3, Vanesa Pardo fought her way back into the first set, coming out with a 7-5 win.
