Frye, Gustafson Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
February 04, 2019 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Track and Field
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Dylan Frye and track and field student-athlete Aliyah Gustafson.
Male Athlete of the Week
Dylan Frye, a junior from Miami, Fla., led Bowling Green to an upset win over No. 18 Buffalo Friday night in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Stroh Center. Frye scored a season-high 25 points, while also adding two assists and two steals. Frye made a career-high 10 field goals in the victory, going 10-for-16 from the floor. The Miami native went 3-for-7 from downtown, connecting on his 150th-career triple in the process, while also marking the 43rd time in his career that he's made multiple three-pointers in one game.
Female Athlete of the Week
Aliyah Gustafson, a redshirt senior from Iowa City, Iowa, won both the shot put and the weight throw at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. She tossed the shot put 56-feet-6.5 (17.23m) for the third-best performance in program history. She added the third-best effort in school history in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 67-0.75 (20.44m) to move into first in the MAC in that event. She leads the MAC in the shot put by more than five feet and the weight throw by well over a foot. Combining the two throws events, she has thrown 14 feet further than any other individual in the MAC. Gustafson is also just one of seven women in the country to rank among the top 25 nationally in both events.
