Falcon Tennis Comes Up Short In Close Match Against Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis program came up on the short end of a hard fought match against the University of Akron on Sunday, March 24. After claiming the doubles point, the Falcons fell behind early in singles play, ultimately losing the match 4-3. In doubles, the duo of Paula Comella and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash captured a 6-0 victory to begin the match. Ayumi Sasaki and Marta Bettinelli joined in on the doubles win, securing the point for BGSU. With the loss, BGSU falls to 0-2 on the season within the MAC while holding a 7-8 overall record.

Statistical Standouts

The win in doubles for Comella and Tavpash inch them both higher up on the all-time doubles wins list. Comella now has 76 doubles win for No. 6 while Tavpash has tallied 56 for No. 25.
In singles, Radeva chalked up win 58 in her career for singles, putting her at No. 24 all-time, just one win behind Katie Grubb on the list.

The Falcons next match will be back home against Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois on Friday, March 29 with a scheduled serve at 1 p.m. In conference play, the Huskies have faced Toledo and Western Michigan. Against the Rockets, the Huskies fell 5-2 to begin their conference schedule. Last season, BGSU topped NIU in regular season play by a score of 6-1.
