BGSU Tennis Prepares For First MAC Home Match Of Season Friday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team will return to the court on Friday, March 29 for the first of two matches over the course of the weekend. With a scheduled first serve of 1 p.m., BGSU will go against Northern Illinois on Friday at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The Huskies will serve as the Falcons' third Mid-American Conference opponent of the season. The Orange and Brown will continue their MAC schedule on Sunday, traveling to Muncie, Ind. to face Ball State with a scheduled first serve of 1 p.m. Bowling Green will enter the weekend with a 7-8 record thus far, including an 0-2 standing within the conference.

The Falcons opened their conference schedule this past weekend, traveling to both Buffalo and Akron. On Friday (March 22), the Falcons came up shy against the Bulls, falling in a 6-1 final. The Orange and Brown returned to the court on Sunday (March 24), playing in a hard fought battle with the Zips, but ending up on the short end of a 4-3 final. On the season as a whole, BGSU has shown flashes of greatness, securing four sweeps, just one shy of tying the program record for sweeps in a season. However, tough competition has reared its ugly head during the season as well, with the Falcons missing out on a win by one or two points four times as well.
Hounding the Huskies
Going into Friday's match, the Huskies will hold a 5-10 overall record, including an 0-2 standing within the Mid-American Conference. Northern Illinois is currently on a two game skid, falling to Toledo and Western Michigan over the past week, both by scores of 5-2. In the two matches, NIU was led by sophomore Maria Potsi who captured singles wins in both contests. Last season, the Falcons topped the Huskies by a score of 6-1.
Ball State Bound
Currently, Ball State has a 12-3 record on the season, with a 1-1 showing within the MAC. This past weekend, the fell to Western Michigan, 4-3, to begin conference play, but captured a win on Sunday (March 24) over Toledo with a 7-0 sweep. Prior to facing the Falcons on Sunday, March 31, the Cardinals will travel to Oxford, Ohio to go head-to-head with Miami University. During the 2017-18 season, BGSU topped Ball State by a score of 4-3.

- Currently at 70 singles wins, Paula Comella has an opportunity to capture two more wins this weekend. If she can reach 72 wins, Comella would move up to a tie for No. 14 in program history.
- As for combined wins, Comella currently has 145 with up to four opportunities this weekend. Now at No. 9 all-time, she could move up as high as No. 6.
- Polina Radeva has a chance to jump up a few more spots in singles wins. At 58, Radeva sits at No. 24 all-time, but just two away from tying for No. 22 all-time.
- Radeva could also move up on the combined wins list. Now in a tie for No. 29 in program history and with up to four opportunities, she could rise as high as No. 26 all-time.
