Hays, Lemke Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
March 04, 2019 | Baseball, General, Women's Swimming & Diving
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Tyler Hays and diver Talisa Lemke.
Male Athlete of the Week
Tyler Hays, a freshman from Copley, Ohio, pitched one of the better games in program history in a 1-0 win at Belmont on Saturday (March 2). Hays logged 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out 12 batters. Hays, who picked up his first collegiate win on the day, struck out the side in the seventh to cap his day. Hays combined with redshirt-junior Chase Antle for an 18-strikeout shutout, coming just three strikeouts away from tying the school record. The win allowed the Falcons to end their season at Belmont with a victory.
Female Athlete of the Week
Talisa Lemke, a junior from Berlin, Germany, captured two dive MAC Championships in Akron, Ohio over the past week. On Thursday (Feb. 28), Lemke successfully defended her 1-Meter Dive MAC Title, winning the event for the second year in a row. Her score of 307.20 was the only 300+ score during the event and marked as her best 1-meter dive of the year. On Saturday (March 2) Lemke won the 3-meter dive MAC title after coming in second last year. Lemke's score of 341.35 provided a 27 point cushion between her and the second place finisher. The two MAC Championship wins pushed Lemke to be named to First-Team All-MAC for the second consecutive year.Â
