Bednard, Butler Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Ryan Bednard and track and field thrower Kaila Butler.
Male Athlete of the Week
Ryan Bednard, a junior from Macomb, Mich., tied a career-high with 40 saves in BGSU's first game in the NCAA Tournament in 29 years. Although Bowling Green lost to defending national champion and No. 2 ranked Minnesota Duluth by a score of 2-1 in overtime, Bednard staked the Falcons to a lead for much of the contest. He shut out the Bulldogs for more than 56 minutes as the Falcons led 1-0 into the late moments of regulation.
Female Athlete of the Week
Kaila Butler, a redshirt sophomore from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, was the top collegiate finisher in the hammer throw at the prestigious Texas Relays. Butler threw the hammer 213-feet-0 (64.92m), which ranks first in the MAC by more than 17 feet and is eighth nationally. Only three MAC throwers in history have thrown further than Butler.
