BGSU Concludes Regular Season With Elite Playing Field In Alabama
April 14, 2019 | Men's Golf
The Falcons will close out their spring season in what could be their toughest competition this season
Shoal Creek, Alabama – The BGSU men's Golf team will wrap up their regular season with a trip down south to compete in the Shoal Creek Invitational, hosted by Auburn University. The event will be the toughest playing field the Falcons have been a part of this season.
There are five teams in Golf Stat's top 25 playing in this event in LSU, Auburn, North Florida, Tennessee and Alabama (rankings as of 4/10/19). The tournament will be held at Shoal Creek Golf Club, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus and played host to the 2018 U.S Women's Open.Â
In seven of the eight tournaments the Falcons have played in, there has been at least one Falcon that has finished in the top 20. Rodrigue Vie posted the best score of any Falcon this year last week at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate. Vie had a total score of -1 (69-72- 141), placing him T-3 overall. Collectively, BGSU finished eighth, which is their best finish of the spring season. In six of the eight tournaments BGSU has played in this year, it has finished eighth or better, including finishing runner up at the Earl Yestingmeier Match Play Tournament.
Some other standout individual performances included Rodrigue Vie winning the MAC Men's Golfer of the Week on Sept. 13. Vie shot -7 over three rounds at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational to finish fourth out of 75 golfers at the event. His 67-73-69-209 was the top BG result and he led the team to a third place finish out of 13 teams, including defeating MAC-rival Toledo. Pablo Heredia Iglesias had two top ten finishes in the fall campaign, finishing T-4th at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate and finishing T-10th at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
