Bowling Green In Position To Climb After Day One Of MAC Championships

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team is in the middle of a crowded leaderboard after the first round of the 2019 MAC Championships. BGSU carded an opening-round 328 to sit in eighth place. However, the Falcons are within seven strokes of three schools. This year's tournament is being played at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana.

All five Falcons – Julia Durkin (80), Erin Fahey (81), Nichole Cox (83), Sammi Blackburn (84) and Jessica Madry (85) – posted rounds within five strokes of each other. Durkin registered a team-high two birdies to lead the Falcons after Round 1. The tournament will resume with 18 holes on Saturday followed by the final round on Sunday.

Toledo leads the field after the opening 18 holes, as the Rockets shot a 303 on the day to sit two strokes ahead of Kent State (305). Northern Illinois (310), Akron (317) and Ohio (321) currently round out the top five.

Bowling Green is one stroke ahead of Central Michigan (329) and five strokes in front of Western Michigan (333). The Falcons are within four shots of Eastern Michigan (324) and Ball State (324).
