Comella Named First Team All-MAC For Third Time In Career

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced the 2019 women's tennis awards Wednesday (April 25) morning prior to the start of the 2019 MAC Women's Tennis Championships. From Bowling Green State University's tennis program, senior Paula Comella was one of six athletes to be named to the First Team All-MAC.

For Comella, this is the fourth time in her career she has been named to one of the All-MAC teams, and the third time she has been named First Team All-MAC. Comella was recognized for First Team All-MAC following her freshman season, as well as her junior season. As a sophomore, she was Second Team All-MAC.
Over the course of this season, Comella played both No. 1 and No. 2 singles in addition to No. 1 doubles. At No. 1 singles, she accumulated a 3-2 record in the MAC with an 8-4 overall standing.While at No. 2 singles, she showed similar success, holding a 1-1 MAC record along with a 3-3 overall standing. As for doubles, Comella dominated with partner Marharita-Sophia Tavpash, going 5-1 in the MAC and 13-5 on the season.
In singles, Comella was named MAC Player of the Week on April 17, marking the second time in her career she was recognized for singles play. She was also named, along with Tavpash, for MAC Doubles Team of the Week twice (Feb. 27, March 27), bringing her career total for being named to six.
At the conclusion of her senior campaign, Comella's named is etched the record books multiple times. In singles play, she finished tied for No. 13 all-time with Heidi Romer notching 73 career singles wins. As for doubles, Comella has sole possession of No. 6 all-time with 79 career doubles wins. Finally, in combined wins, she also has sole possession of No. 6 all-time with 151 wins.
