Heredia Iglesias, Sorgi Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
April 29, 2019 | General, Men's Golf, Softball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are golfer Pablo Heredia Iglesias and softball player Alex Sorgi.
Male Athlete of the Week
Pablo Heredia Iglesias, a senior from Sevilla, Spain, finished tied for 13th (74-75- 149) out of 45 total golfers at the shortened MAC Men's Golf Championships. Iglesias played a consistent 36 holes finishing second overall in Par 4 scoring average with an even 4.00 average. The Spaniard's front nine score of 35 was tied for the second best nine hole score of the tournament. BGSU finished fifth overall, which is the team's best finish since the 2012-13 season and just four strokes shy of tying for a top three finish. Â
Female Athlete of the Week
Alex Sorgi, a senior from Shelby Township, Mich., hit a team-best .400 as the Falcons went 3-1 last week. Sorgi scored four runs in the four games, and also stole six bases, including a school record-tying four in one game. Sorgi had at least one hit in all four of last week's games, increasing her current hitting streak to six games. She tied the school record for steals in a game (a record she already shared) with four vs. Akron.
