April 09, 2019 | Men's Golf
Vie has the best performance from a Falcon this season in Nashville
Nashville, Tenn. – The BGSU men's Golf team finished play at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate finishing in eighth place. The tournament, hosted by Lipscomb University, was shortened to 36 holes due to rain on Monday. Rodrigue Vie shined for the Falcons this tournament finishing with a total score of -1 (69-72- 141), placing him T-3 overall. Vie flirted with the top overall spot all tournament with a crowded top of the leaderboard; six golfers finished within four shots of the top overall scorer.Â
The T-3 finish is the top finish on the season for the Falcons and is the highest since Vie finished T-4 at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational in the fall. He went on to win Jet's Athlete of the Week and MAC Golfer of the Week for his performance.
Pablo Heredia Iglesias finished T-33 at +9 (76-75- 151), whiile finished T-47 at +11 (75-78- 153). Nick Hofland (T-52) wrapped up play at +12 (77-77- 154), and Max Rispler (T-69) at +15 (76-81- 157).
In seven of the eight tournaments the Falcons have now played in, there has been at least one Falcon that has finished in the top 20 with Vie's performance this week. The France native had nine birdies to lead the Falcons, which tied his season best 36-hole birdie count dating back to the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, where he placed in the top five. Vie was just one of ten golfers out of 88 total to shoot below 70 in either round. He had just one bogey and double bogey. His first-round 69 was tied for the second-lowest score among all golfers.
USC Upstate was the winner of the tournament with a score of +5 (292-281- 573) followed by Southern Mississippi +8 (289-287-576) and Samford +14 (285-297- 582).Â
The Falcons will wrap up their regular season next week in what will likely be one their most challenging tournaments of the season, as they play in the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Auburn University.Â
