Five Falcons Named To MAC Women's Tennis Academic All-MAC Team

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference released the Women's Tennis Academic All-MAC team for the 2018-19 season, announcing the 31 athletes named on Tuesday (May 21) morning. The Bowling Green State University tennis program saw five athletes named, tying for the most by any school in the MAC. To qualify, athletes must maintain a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have played in at least half of the team's contests. From Bowling Green, seniors Vanesa Pardo and Polina Radeva, juniors Ayumi Sasaki and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and sophomore Marta Bettinelli were recognized.

Senior Vanesa Pardo of Puertollano, Spain earned a spot on the Academic All-MAC team for the first time, being eligible for the list for the first time due to transfer rules. Pardo sustained a 3.423 GPA in Supply Chain Management at BGSU. For the Falcons, Pardo concluded with a 9-8 singles record during the 2018-19 season, including winning the clinching singles point for Bowling Green against rival Toledo.
Senior Polina Radeva of Varna, Bulgaria was named for the third time in her career, maintaining a 3.830 GPA in Psychology. Radeva was named MAC Doubles Team of the Week twice, coming in back-to-back weeks, during the season with partner Ayumi Sasaki. In singles play, Radeva finished with a 12-7 record, moving her to No. 22 all-time in program history for career singles wins with 61.
Junior Ayumi Sasaki of Montreal, Canada received recognition for the second time in her BGSU career, holding a 3.901 GPA in Pre-Accounting. Over the course of the season, Sasaki accumulated a 13-6 doubles record, playing with both Polina Radeva and Marta Bettinelli. Sasaki and Radeva won MAC Doubles Team of the Week twice, while Sasaki also won it once with Bettinelli.
Junior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash of Lviv, Ukraine was on the list for the second time in her career with BGSU, sustaining a 3.812 GPA while majoring in Marketing. While earning a 13-5 doubles record, Tavpash and partner Paula Comella were named MAC Doubles Team of the Week twice during the season. Tavpash also moved up into the top 30 in all-time singles wins, all-time doubles wins and all-time combined wins in program history.
Sophomore Marta Bettinelli of Milan, Italy received recognition for the first time in her BGSU career, earning a 4.000 GPA in Criminal Justice. Of the 31 athletes named, Bettinelli was the only one to have a 4.000 GPA. On the court, Bettinelli was named MAC Doubles Team of the Week with partner Ayumi Sasaki. Bettinelli also tallied an 11-8 singles record for the year.
Bowling Green's five athletes recognized tied three other programs for the most in the conference with Akron, Ball State and Western Michigan also seeing five athletes named.
