Falcons Top Oakland, 3-0, in Wednesday Scrimmage
August 14, 2019 | Women's Soccer
The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team scored a goal in every period, picking up a 3-0 win at Oakland University in scrimmage action at the OU Soccer Field on Wednesday evening (Aug. 14).
Sophomore Alexis Miller and freshmen Kennedy White and Jasmijn Dijsselhof found the back of the net for the Falcons in the victory, while seniors Kathleen Duwve and Monica Florez and freshman Becky Moss each saw time between the posts as BG kept a clean sheet.
The match featured three 30-minute periods, and a total of 25 different Falcons saw action.
Miller opened the scoring with just 13 seconds remaining in the opening period. A corner kick by senior Maureen Kennedy sailed into the box, and White headed the ball toward goal. White's shot was saved, and in the ensuing scramble, sophomore Sarah Allen fired a pair of shots toward goal. Both efforts were blocked before Miller placed a ball into the upper-left-hand corner of the goal. The shot caromed off of the post and into the net.
White doubled the lead to cap off a textbook play early in the second period. Senior Chelsee Washington put redshirt junior Nikki Cox past the OU defense on the left side of the penalty area, and Cox slid a pass into the center of the box. White was there to tap it home for a two-goal lead.
Dijsselhof capped the scoring in the 68th minute. Her header gave the Falcons a three-goal lead after a perfectly-placed right-side cross off of the boot of sophomore Zoe Hudson.
The Falcons now have just over a week before the regular-season opener. BG will travel to Lexington, Ky., to take on the University of Kentucky on Thursday, Aug. 22.
