UC uses a pair of late goals to answer BG's offensive attack
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team dropped a high-scoring affair to the University of Cincinnati 4-3 in overtime on Friday (Sept. 21) night. The wild non-conference affair was held at Cochrane Stadium.
In a game that could have gone either way and very nearly did, UC got a pair of late goals for the win. The Bearcats' Darryn Commissiong scored on a counterattack with just 49 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, and Donovan Segree scored on a rebound of his own free kick just 1:54 into overtime.
The Falcons got goals from juniors Achille Robin and Chris Sullivan and sophomore Kale Nichols, while senior Chris Brennan had assists on each of the last two BG goals.Â
The match was tied at the half before Nichols' header gave BG the lead in the 58th minute. The Falcons had several chances to take a two-goal lead, but were unable to do so, and Commissiong's 90th-minute strike tied the contest before Segree scored the winner.

THE GOALS
• 4' | The Bearcats got on the board early, on a give-and-go play between Darryn Commissiong and Shevon Stewart. Stewart received a return pass from Commissiong as he entered the right side of the penalty area, and he fired a low shot into the far corner of the goal.
• 15' | As the Falcons pressured the Bearcats in BG's offensive end, a UC defender slipped and junior Chris Sullivan pounced. He took the ball, went around the Bearcat player and was tripped as he entered the penalty area. A penalty kick was awarded, and  junior Achille Robin stepped up and converted that PK to tie the score.
• 28' | The Falcons took the lead on Sullivan's goal. Senior Chris Brennan's nifty seeing-eye through-ball put sophomore Matt Walters into the box on the right side. Walters headed toward goal and hit a hard shot. UC goalkeeper Noah Lawrence was able to block the Walters shot, but Sullivan knifed through several Bearcat players to chest the ball into the net.
• 36' | The Bearcats knotted the score on a Creggton Charlton goal. Charlton hit a shot from the top of the box that hit the left post. A BG defender attempted to quickly clear the rebound, but the ball went directly back to Charlton. This time, the UC striker fired a shot toward the other side of the net, and it went just inside the right post.
• 58' | A long throw by Brennan sailed into the box, over a host of players from both teams. The ball bounced, and sophomore Kale Nichols quickly headed it over Lawrence and a defender and into the upper-left corner of the goal.
• 90' | BG cleared the ball out of the defensive end as the clock ticked down to the one-minute mark. Brennan attempted to beat a UC player one-on-one just over midfield, but was knocked to the ground as the Bearcats won the ball back. A long ball sailed into the box, where Aerin West played a quick pass to Commissiong. Commissiong's seeing-eye shot, taken from the 18-yard line, rolled through several players in the box and found the back of the net.
• 92' | A foul was called on the Falcons just outside the penalty area, and Donovan Segree took the ensuing free kick. Segree fired a shot that was blocked by the BG wall, but the ball bounded directly back to Segree, who hit a low shot that went under the wall and into the lower-right-hand corner of the goal, giving the 'Cats the victory.
