September 23, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Falcon defender one of 30 female finalists for prestigious national honor
Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Maureen Kennedy has been selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. Kennedy is one of 30 female finalists for the national award.
The finalists were announced on Monday afternoon (Sept. 23). A total of sixty NCAA® men's and women's soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as candidates for the award in collegiate soccer. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
Â
"Outside of her on-field awards that prove her incredible soccer ability, Mo is simply a wonderful all-around person," said BGSU women's soccer coach Matt Fannon. "She works tirelessly to be perfect in the classroom; she consistently creates opportunities for community service; she consistently seeks advice on how to improve and makes strides to follow through with every aspect. Whatever Mo does with her life, she will be a success because of the drive and dedication she shows every day."
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.Â
Â
Each of the 60 candidates has displayed a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the pitch. Outside of academics and athletics, all candidates also have been consistently involved in community service on their campus or in their communities.
Â
Each of the two candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

Â
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
