Paula Comella Returns To BGSU Tennis As Assistant Coach
September 05, 2019 | Women's Tennis
Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis program will welcome Paula Comella to the coaching staff for the 2019-20 season. A 2019 graduate of BGSU, Comella joins the staff after playing four years for the Falcons, having become one of the winningest players in program history.Â
"I'm extremely thankful that Paula chose to stay with us and continue to help this program and student athletes," said Head Coach Stephanie Dalmacio. "Her success speaks for itself, as one of the best players this program has ever seen. The team and myself couldn't be more excited to keep her on board!"
As a Falcon, Comella chalked up 151 combined wins over her career, giving her sole possession of No. 6 all-time in program history. Comella also stacks up to No. 6 all-time for career doubles wins with 79. Additionally, her 73 singles wins placed her in a tie for No. 13 all-time.Â
Comella also received conference recognition on multiple occasions. Following the 2018-19 season, she was named to the First Team All-MAC for the third time in her career, having been named to the Second Team All-MAC in the year she wasn't First Team. Over her career with Bowling Green, Comella was named MAC Singles Player of the Week twice and a member of the MAC Doubles Team of the Week six times. Other accolades include being named to the 2018 MAC All-Tournament Team and MAC Freshman of the Year following the 2015-16 season, being just the second player in program history to win the award.Â
Tennis will begin play for the 2019-20 season, hosting the BGSU Invitational on Sept. 13 and 14. The Falcons finished the 2018-19 season with a 10-10 record, going 3-4 in the MAC.Â
