MAC Releases Preseason Poll For Tennis Ahead Of Spring Slate

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference released the 2020 preseason poll for tennis on Thursday morning (Jan. 16). With the addition of Eastern Michigan this year, the MAC will feature nine women's tennis teams. Of those, Bowling Green was selected to finish seventh. Buffalo was chosen as the favorite, receiving five first place votes, followed closely by Miami who had four first place votes.Â

The poll closely reflects the way the conference concluded last season. Just a year ago, Miami took the top spot during the regular season with Akron and Ball State following behind. Western Michigan, Buffalo and Toledo rounded out the top six for the tournament with Bowling Green just missing the tournament and Northern Illinois concluding with the last spot in the conference. As for Eastern Michigan, they return to competition after taking a one-year hiatus last season.Â
The Falcons will resume play this coming weekend, taking on Notre Dame in a double-header on Sunday (Jan. 19) beginning at 10:00 a.m. before returning to Bowling Green on Friday, Jan. 24 to host Youngstown State. The Orange and Brown are coming off a fall campaign that was highlighted by the doubles play of Senior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Junior Marta Bettinelli.Â
As for conference play, the Falcons open against Akron on Sunday, March 22 at home followed the following Friday (March 27) against Ball State, also at home. The conference schedule will run through the end of the season from there, concluding the regular season on Sunday, April 19 when the team travels north for the Battle of I-75.Â
