BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team was defeated by Kent State University on Friday (Jan. 3) night by a score of 79-61. The Mid-American Conference opener was played inside the Stroh Center. Bowling Green drops to 9-5 on the season with the loss.
Bowling Green did not lead in the game, as the Golden Flashes led for 39:24 of the game's 40 minutes. A KSU triple at the 19:09 mark of the first half gave the visitors a 5-2 lead, and the Golden Flashes did not surrender that lead for the remainder of the contest.
Junior forward Daeqwon Plowden and senior guard Dylan Frye led the way in the scoring column with 14 points apiece. Forwards Marlon Sierra and Matiss Kulackovskis each scored nine points. The Falcons struggled to hit open shots from deep, and were held to a 3-for-23 mark from downtown.
The Golden Flashes shot 50.0 percent (30-of-60) from the field, including an 8-for-17 (47.1 percent) mark from three-point range. Senior guard Antonio Williams led Kent State with 22 points and seven rebounds.
