TOLEDO, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team defeated the University of Toledo on Saturday (Jan. 25) evening by a score of 85-79. The Mid-American Conference ballgame was played inside UT's Savage Arena in front of a capacity crowd of 7,268 fans. Bowling Green has now won six-straight games.
The win marks Bowling Green's first at Savage Arena since 2011, snapping a six-game skid in the Glass City. Prior to the victory, the Falcons had lost three-straight games overall to the Rockets. The win is BGSU's first over UT since an epic double overtime game at the Stroh Center on Feb. 4, 2017. The Falcons won that game by a score of 104-100.
With the Battle of I-75 victory, the Falcons move to 15-5 (6-1 MAC) on the season. BGSU is tied atop the MAC standings with Akron, as both teams own identical 6-1 league records. Every other team in the conference has multiple losses. With the loss, Toledo drops to 11-9 (3-4 MAC).
Bowling Green was led by its starting back court of senior guard Dylan Frye (22 points / 6 assists) and redshirt-junior guard Justin Turner (20 points / 3 rebounds). Junior forward Daeqwon Plowden recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore guard Caleb Fields (11 points) also finished in double figures for the Orange and Brown.
KEY PLAYS DOWN THE STRETCH
• Daeqwon Plowden drilled a triple at the top of the key to give the Falcons a 66-56 lead with 6:21 remaining in the contest.
• Toledo scored the next five points, but a Dylan Frye layup with 4:22 left in the game bumped the BGSU lead up to seven points at 68-61.
• UT's Marreon Jackson answered with a pair of two-point field goals, but Justin Turner made a jumper in between the two Toledo buckets. The back end of Jackson's field goals pulled the Rockets within five points at 70-65 with 3:29 to play.
• Matiss Kulackovskis drilled a huge three-pointer with just 3:07 left in regulation, giving the Falcons a 73-65 lead. UT's Keshaun Saunders cleaned up an air ball, scoring a layup with 2:42 to play, but Turner followed with a dagger-type triple with only 1:32 left on the clock. Turner's three-pointer gave Bowling Green a 76-67 lead.
• Toledo never had the ball down a single possession the rest of the way. Caleb Fields helped salt away the game by going 6-for-6 at the free throw line over the final 30 seconds of the game.

• For the 17th time in his career and fourth time this season, senior guard Dylan Frye scored 20-plus points. Frye finished with a team-high 22 points. The native of Miami, Florida also had six assists and just one turnover.
• Frye went 3-for-6 from downtown, and has now made multiple triples in the same game a total of 66 times. Frye has made 226 three-pointers as a Falcon, and is now just three makes shy of breaking John Reimold's (2002-05 | 228) BGSU record.
• Redshirt-junior guard Justin Turner scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half. Turner has scored 20-plus points 33 times as a Falcon, including seven such efforts in 2019-20. Turner added three rebounds and two assists for BGSU, as well.
• On the night, both Frye and Turner surpassed Falcon legend Nate Thurmond (1960-63 | 1,356) on BGSU's all-time scoring list. Frye has scored 1,374 points in 117 games, while Turner has scored 1,373 points in 83 games. Frye now ranks 18th all-time in scoring at Bowling Green, while Turner ranks 19th.
• Junior forward Daeqwon Plowden registered his seventh double-double of the season, as he finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Plowden also had one assist and two steals. Plowden has eight double-doubles in his career.
• Plowden has scored 10-plus points in 15 games this season. He had 15 double-digit scoring games across his first two seasons combined. Plowden has 10 double-digit rebounding efforts in 2019-20. He had just one game with 10-plus rebounds over his first two seasons as a Falcon combined.
• Sophomore guard Caleb Fields went 6-for-6 from the free throw line, and made all six attempts in the final 30 seconds of regulation. Fields went 2-for-3 from the floor and 1-for-2 from deep to finish with 11 points. Fields has scored 10-plus points 11 times in his career.
• Redshirt-sophomore forward Matiss Kulackovskis finished with eight points, four rebounds and a career-high two assists. Kulackovskis went 3-for-4 from the field and tied his career high with two made triples. Kulackovskis went 2-for-3 from downtown.
• Making his first appearance since the Jan. 7 game versus Miami, freshman guard Davin Zeigler stepped up in a big way, as he closed the first half on a 5-0 run to give the Falcons a 37-33 lead at the break. Zeigler made a nice layup, and then after a defensive stop, Zeigler poured in a three-pointer at the buzzer.
• For Zeigler, the made baskets marked the fourth and fifth field goals of his career. The three-pointer marked the second triple of his career. Zeigler also had one rebound in the game.
• Sophomore center Tayler Mattos contributed with five points and two rebounds. Mattos banked in a three-pointer in the first half, and is now 2-for-2 from long range in his career.
• Senior guard Michael Laster finished the contest with three assists and zero turnovers. Over Bowling Green's six-game win streak, Laster has combined for 25 assists and five turnovers. Laster also added two points and two rebounds in the victory.
• Senior forward Marlon Sierra (5 rebounds) and junior forward Trey Diggs (3 rebounds) chipped in on the glass for the Orange and Brown.
