Falcons Kick Off Second Half With Training And Competition In Miami

Miami, Fla. – The Bowling Green State University swim and dive team will travel to Miami for a week of training before competing in the Florida International Relay Invitational. This will be the Falcons' first time in action since early December, marking the beginning of their 2020 campaign. The team will spend the week training at the Florida International University Aquatic Center, an outdoor facility that will also play host for the relay invite. The invitational will begin at 10:00 a.m.
BGSU saw a multitude of wins and several historic moments during the first half of the season. The Falcons currently stand at 2-0, winning home dual meets against Ohio (174-126) and Marshall (178-122). They finished in 4th place of 13 teams at the Cleveland State University Magnus Cup, with two athletes breaking school records.
In Cleveland, Daisy Platts swam the 200-yard IM in 1:59.64, taking first and setting the top mark in program history. Talisa Lemke scored a 330.35 in the 1 meter dive prelims and a 373.50 in the 3 meter dive prelims to break her previous school records. The senior won both events.
There have been 14 instances of a Falcon swimmer finishing with a top ten event time in program history. Daisy Platts has accounted for ten of those records, placing in the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard IM, and 400-yard IM. Lauren Sullivan also landed in the school's top ten in the 200-yard backstroke. Sarah Hennings has a pair of BGSU ten top ten times in the 100-yard butterfly, with Anna Eriksson adding one as well.
The Falcon relays have also seen success, winning five events and placing second or third in ten events. The medley relay team of Daisy Platts, Taylor Harris, Sarah Hennings, and Anna Eriksson has won three events, including two at the Magnus Cup. Additionally, divers Talisa Lemke and Kylie Mosset have each qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones. This will be Lemke's fourth appearance and Mosset's second.

On the Miami trip: "This trip will be a good time for us to focus on training and build team spirit and morale. Being in a different atmosphere will be good for our training and being able to do things around the city will be great for the team."
On the season's second half: "In the second half, we really want to focus on our race strategy. This will help us get ready for the duals against Miami and Davenport, and when we travel to Eastern Michigan. Our goal is to remain undefeated in duals. We want to finish strong against Toledo then have a great showing at the MAC Championships."

Following the Florida trip, the Falcons will host back-to-back dual meets on Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18. Friday's dual against Davenport will begin at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday's dual against Miami will begin at 1:00 p.m. The Falcons will travel to Ypsilanti for a 1:00 p.m. dual against Eastern Michigan on Friday, Jan. 24.
