November 24, 2020 | Women's Cross Country
Bowling Green, Ohio -- The national spotlight shines once again on Kailee Perry.
After being named NCAA XC National Athlete of the Week for Division I Women two weeks ago for her dominant performance at the Falcon Invitational, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has once again recognized her for her incredible performance at the MAC Championships last Saturday (Nov. 21).
Perry became the fourth individual champion in program history, and first since 1995, when she finished the 6k with a remarkable time of 20:41.0. She finished within earshot of the all-time school record of 20:25.0 held by Rachel Walny.
Perry also became the first runner in the program since 1998 to qualify for nationals. Additionally, she became the second school runner in program history to be awarded MAC Freshman of the Year, joining Walny in 2015.
"She's a kid that just wants it badly, and [she's] willing to put in the time and the effort and the work. She has some special tools on top of that … I'm just super proud of her," Head Coach Lou Snelling said regarding Perry's performance on Saturday.
Kailee Perry now boasts both of the national awards named to BGSU student-athletes this semester.
