Johnson, Fleming Named Medical Mutual Athletes Of The Week
December 14, 2020 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Basketball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Medical Mutual Athletes of the Week, as selected by the strategic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Max Johnson and women's basketball player Lexi Fleming.
Male Athlete of the Week
Max Johnson, a senior from Lakeville, Minn., totaled three points for the Falcons over the weekend en route to sweeping Ferris State. Johnson scored the game-winning goal in Friday's (Dec. 11) 3-2 victory with a redirect score with just 12 seconds remaining in the period. Carrying the momentum into Saturday (Dec. 12) Johnson scored the Falcons' first goal in the 6-2 win before assisting on another score later in the game. Johnson now has six goals on the season, leading the team.Â
Female Athlete of the Week
Lexi Fleming, a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, had a team-high 18.0 points per game last week, as the Falcons split a pair of games to move to 4-1 on the young season. Fleming had 21 points in BGSU's 71-64 win over Eastern Michigan, helping the Falcons to a win in the MAC opener for the first time in five years. It also marked BGSU's first 4-0 start to a season in seven years. Fleming went 8-of-12 (.667) from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, vs. the Eagles, and surpassed the 20-point plateau for the third time in as many home games. Fleming then tied for team honors with 15 points, adding three assists and three steals, as the Falcons suffered a narrow 79-73 loss on the road at Purdue.
