Falcons Perfect On Power Play In Saturday Loss To Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Minn. Â - The Bowling Green State University hockey team's comeback was just shy of the victory against No. 19 Bemidji State on Saturday night (Feb. 1) in a 4-2 final. The Falcons netted a goal in both the second and third period, but the Beavers were able to break the tie late in the third period before tacking on an empty-net goal. The Falcons' record now stands at 13-13-2 overall and 8-10-2-2 in the WCHA.Â
Next Home Game: The Falcons return to Slater Family Ice Arena on Feb. 7 to host Alaska Anchorage for the weekend. Both Friday and Saturday will have 7:07 p.m. puck drops. The Falcons last faced Alaska Anchorage in November, sweeping the weekend with a 3-1 win on Friday and a 3-0 win on Saturday.Â

Scoring Plays
- Bemidji State netted the first goal of the night. After Falcon goalie Zack Rose was tripped up by a stick, Alex Adams utilized the opportunity to snipe a goal from near the blue line. The lone assist came from Brad Johnson.
- During the second 4v4 session, the Beavers extended their lead with a goal from Tommy Muck on a quick pass from Elias Rosen with the second assist coming from Ethan Somoza.
- The Falcons soon brought the score back within one seeing Frederic Letourneau net his fifth goal of the season, being assisted by Will Cullen and Jacob Dalton.
- On the lone power play of the night for the Falcons, Cameron Wright lit the lamp on a breakaway goal to tie it up for the Falcons. He was assisted by Alec Rauhauser and Zack Rose on the score.Â
- The Beavers reclaimed the lead when Ross Armour redirected a goal after screening in front of Rose off an attempt from Adams from near the wall. Adam Brady had the second assist.Â
- With Rose pulled for Bowling Green, Owen Sillinger sent the puck across two-thirds of the ice into the empty net to extend the lead. He was assisted by Will Zmolek.Â

- In the first period, Rose was able to fend off 12 of the 13 on goal attempts by the Beavers. The one that made it past came after Rose was tripped by a fellow Falcon in front of the net.Â
- With the power play going for Bemidji State, the Falcons committed a penalty as time expired in the first period, giving the Beavers a 5v3 opportunity to begin the second period for the first 29 seconds.Â
- Happening twice in the second period, the Falcons and Beavers were each called for a penalty on the same play on three occasions during the game, sending the teams into 4v4 hockey.Â
Falcon Stat Facts
- With his goal in the second period, Letourneau registered his 14th point of the season, tying his career high for a single season. He previously scored 14 points during both the 2016-17 and 2018-19 seasons.Â
- By the end of the second period, Rose had already logged a new career high for saves in a game with 27 through the first two periods. Rose's previous high was 21 saves coming against Michigan Tech on Oct. 26. Rose concluded the game with 35 saves.Â
- Scoring in the third period, Wright extended his team lead for goals on the season with 16. It also served as his seventh power play goal, trailing Connor Ford by one score for that category lead.
- Assisting on Wright's goal, Rauhauser raised his season total for points to 27 with 19 assists, both team leads. The assist also gives Rauhauser the most points by a Falcon since 2000.Â
