BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Head coach Dennis Williams has announced the addition of Dustin Carlson to the BGSU ice hockey staff for the upcoming year. Carlson will serve as the director of hockey operations, which will provide support in a number of areas on and off the ice including travel and logistics, video analysis, team activities and alumni relations.
"We are very excited to have Dustin join our staff. His passion and experience in both collegiate and junior hockey will pay dividends to our program. We'd like to welcome Dustin and his family to BGSU," said Williams.
Carlson brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience across junior, collegiate and professional hockey. Most notably, he was as a goaltender at Ohio State from 2007-2011, appearing in 70 games across four seasons.
Following his career at Ohio State, Carlson played for several professional teams across the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).
Following his playing career, Carlson returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach at Ohio State from 2017-2023. Most recently, Carlson served as the goaltending coach for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL).
"I am honored to join this historic program and excited to work with the amazing staff that Coach Williams has put together," Carlson stated. "Hockey is more than a game – it's a culture and this is a culture I'm proud to be a member of."
With the addition of Carlson to the staff, BGSU continues to build momentum for the upcoming hockey season. The program has undergone multiple changes over the offseason, including the addition of assistant coaches Jacob Pritchard and Matt Nicholson, as well as a talented group of incoming players from across the Canadian Hockey League.
