Falcons Drown Lakers on Senior Night to Clinch Home Ice for Mason Cup Quarterfinals

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (16-13-4, CCHA 12-10-4) defeated the Lake Superior State Lakers (12-20-2, CCHA 10-15-1) by a score of 5-2 on Senior Night. With tonight's win and St.Thomas' sweep of Michigan Tech, the Falcons earned the right to host the CCHA Mason Cup Quarterfinals for the first time since the 2022-23 season, finishing the regular season in fourth place.

- Neither team found the back of the net in the first period with the Falcons out shooting the Lakers 17-10
- Senior Ben Wozney scored the first goal of the game at 12:17 in the second period. Senior Jackson Niedermayer passed the puck to graduate Ethan Scardina behind the net. Scardina passed the puck up to senior Ben Wozney at the blue line. Wozney took a wrist shot that went past the screen Lakers goaltender
- Sophomore Ben Doran doubled the Falcon lead just over five minutes later. Sophomore Gustav Stjernberg passed the puck to senior Ryan O'Hara at the blue line. O'Hara passed it across to Doran. Doran deked the LSSU goaltender and slid it under the pad to make it 2-0.
- The Orange and Brown added to the lead just under five minutes into the third period. Junior Brett Pfoh, at the top of the right circle, passed it across the slot to Stjernberg. Stjernberg took an initial shot that was saved but the rebound came out to sophomore Brody Waters who tapped it in.
- Senior Ryan O'Hara scored his 11th goal of the season at 7:22 in the third period. Lake Superior State took a shot that went wide and kicked out around the boards. Sophomore Quinn Emerson beat the pinching Lake Superior State defender. Emerson and O'Hara rushed the puck up on a 2 on 1 situation. Emerson took an initial shot that was stopped but the rebound came out right to O'Hara. O'Hara shot it into the empty net past the diving LSSU goaltender.
- The Falcons scored their final goal of the night 24 seconds later. Waters scored his second of the night. Junior Jaden Grant hit the Laker player off the puck at the defensive blue line and passed it out to freshman Maxwell Martin. Martin took the puck into the zone and passed it across to Waters. Waters took a shot that beat the goaltender.
- With just over nine minutes left in the game, on the penalty-kill, senior Christian Stoever made a diving save and kept the puck out of the net to keep the five-goal lead.
- The Lakers scored three goals in the final nine minutes and 24 seconds to make the score seem closer than it was all game.
