Turner Scores 33 Points To Lead BGSU To Big-Time Road Win At Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – Behind 33 points from redshirt-junior guard Justin Turner, the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team earned a huge 77-71 road victory on Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon at Ball State University. The Mid-American Conference ballgame was played at BSU's Worthen Arena. Ball State entered the game with a 5-0 record at home within the league.
Bowling Green moves to 19-7 (10-3 MAC) with the win. The Falcons have clinched a winning record in league play. BGSU has now experienced back-to-back winning MAC seasons for the first time since 1999-2002 (four straight).
With the loss, Ball State drops to 14-11 (7-5 MAC). The Falcons completed the season sweep of the Cardinals, as BGSU defeated Ball State inside the Stroh Center on Jan. 28 by a score of 67-61.
BGSU sits all alone atop the conference standings at 10-3. Akron (9-3) is a half-game behind the Falcons, while every other team in the league has accumulated at least five MAC losses.
The Falcons led by 20 points with just over four minutes left in regulation. With BGSU leading by a score of 72-53 with 3:37 to play, the Cardinals went on a 16-0 run to trim the Bowling Green lead to three points. The 16-0 run had the score at 72-69 with 30 seconds to go. Ball State also pulled within three at 74-71 with 13 seconds left on the clock. On both occasions, Turner hit a pair of free throws to bump the lead up to five.
Turner – to go along with his 33 points – had six assists and six rebounds. Senior guard Michael Laster posted 12 points, six rebounds and three steals. Junior forward Daeqwon Plowden added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The pair of games are Turner's two 30-point games this season.
• All six of Turner's 30-point games have come on the road (34 at Northern Illinois on Feb. 16, 2019; 33 at Drexel on Nov. 10, 2017; 33 at Ball State on Feb. 15, 2020; 31 at Central Michigan on Feb. 4, 2020; 30 at Central Michigan on Jan. 12, 2019; 30 at Akron on Jan. 13, 2018).

• Senior guard Michael Laster scored a season-high 12 points, and did so by tying a season high with five made field goals. The 12-point effort marked the ninth double-figure scoring game of Laster's Bowling Green career. Laster posted six rebounds, three steals and one assist, as well.
• Bowling Green's frontcourt of junior Daeqwon Plowden and sophomore Tayler Mattos combined for 14 points and 14 rebounds. Plowden – who had eight points and eight rebounds – scored all eight of his points in the second half. Mattos – who went 3-for-4 from the floor -- registered six points and six rebounds. Plowden had one block, while Mattos had one assist.
• Redshirt-sophomore Matiss Kulackovskis contributed five points and tied his career high with six rebounds. Kulackovskis' five rebounds set a season high, and he's now posted a career-high six rebounds three times in his career. Kulackovskis went 2-for-4 from the field.
• Junior forward Trey Diggs led the team with an on-court rating of plus-10. The Floridian had five points and three rebounds. Diggs went 1-for-3 from downtown. Diggs scored a career-high 25 points on 5-of-8 shooting from deep in BGSU's Jan. 28 victory over Ball State.
• Freshman guard Davin Zeigler and sophomore guard Caleb Fields each scored four points. Zeigler had three rebounds, as well. Senior forward Marlon Sierra added two rebounds.
